Caleb's First Hurricane??

Camp Colson!! Where we had to sleep last night!

We didn't have power so we used our Crank Radio to listen to what was going on!

Too early in the morning for pictures Mom!!!

The car port outside our door...I heard this fall down last night...SCARY!!

If you look closely, Ad's car is the red one and this is what was left of the tree right in front of it...there was a lot of debris everywhere!

For those of you who haven't had the chance to look at the news lately, the Houston area just got hit with HUGE hurricane Ike...it was quite the experience and one that I really don't want to experience EVER again! It came to shore early this morning, but it was really windy all day yesterday...because we weren't an area that was a mandatory evacuation, we had to "hunker" down (I love these Texas terms!) We were directed to run from the water and hide from the wind, and since we didn't have any water to run from out here in Katy, moved our mattress into the safest place in our apartment away from our windows. Caleb slept in between us and had no idea what was going on because he slept through the whole thing! I, on the other hand, was a complete wuss and slept for maybe an hour or two. The wind was blowing so hard I swore the roof was going to blow off! It is really something to experience when the wind blows so hard and just howls...you can hear things being broken and moved around outside, not to mention the constant flash of either lightning or transformers blowing up! We were lucky and had power until 4 in the morning. We also got ours back at 11 this morning and have been able to enjoy AC and watching what has been going on around our area. I think that we are one of the lucky few that got power back as quickly as we did...we took a drive this afternoon and there wasn't much on other than our little area! We also are so grateful that we moved out to Katy because downtown Houston (where we used to live) just got hammered! We saw a picture of our old apartment complex and it was just completely surrounded by water...along with the freeways! Our friends Mike and Julie Hill who still live downtown, told us that they still don't have power...we hope that they will be able to make it out here to Katy if it doesn't turn on and the waters recede! We are truly grateful that we are safe and that our home was protected through our first (and hopefully last) natural disaster! Here are a few pictures that I took today of what went on!!

What Caleb does when the power is out...PLAY as usual!

We'll call you and keep y'all updated!

Caleb enjoying the AC and a bowl of rice cereal and prunes!!

YUMMY!!!
