Time to Brush Caleb's Teeth!

This is almost the funnest part of my day...not because it's time for Caleb to go to bed, but because he is so eager to get up on my lap every night and get his teeth brushed! It's hilarious...we change his bum, he follows me into the bathroom, lets me brush his teeth (he likes the toothpaste better that the brush), we'll wash out his mouth and then he follows me to his room for prayers and bed! Adam says that it looks a little harsh when I'm cleaning off his face, but Caleb doesn't complain!! Not yet anyway!!! I don't know if i've mentioned this in past blogs but Caleb has this thing about him that when he is teething, all of his teeth come in at once! He has eight teeth coming in right now...4 molars and his 4 canine teeth! They are just breaking through and don't seem to bother him at all!!! He is a funny kiddo!!! The next video I'm going to try to get of him is when he is kicking the wall while he's in his crib for bedtime! Adam has nicknamed me "The Law" because I have to go in and have a little chat with Caleb when he does this...it is so hard to keep a straight face with his little lets sticking up in the air in between his crib slats (especially when I catch him mid-kick)! All I have to say is he doesn't do it again!!!! He knows when mom means BUSINESS (although I like to think he just wants one more good night)!!! Enjoy the show!

Happy Father's Day? and MORE!

We'll start off this post with some of our quick Father's Day pics from Sunday...before Caleb was stripped down to the "Mom Beater". We had to take these ones pretty quick mostly because we were late to church AND I knew Caleb would probably look like a little ragglemuffin by the end of the day!! Caleb got his dad the movie Pinocchio for Father's Day and I got Adam the latest and greatest new Swiss Army Knife...I tried to be creative but for some reason couldn't come up with anything so I finally got Ad to tell me what he really wanted and FINALLY he told me last Thursday! So he still doesn't have his present because I had to order it! I know he's excited for it because he asks me everyday if it's here yet!!!!! We had a great day, grilled some steaks, watched Pinocchio and spent some quality time together as a family!! I even made Adam a Strawberry Rhubarb Tart, which turned out Excellent if I do say so myself!

Honestly, I don't know why Caleb is crying here...I guess it was all the pressure to take a cute picture with his Dad!!

Third try is almost a charm!!

TODAY:

Today has just been a lazy day for Caleb and myself...we stayed at home and just played! As we were eating lunch together, I was munching on an apple and Caleb decided that he wanted to try it out for himself. The result is the video below...he seriously would just sit and look at me with that apple in his mouth and make the sweetest face!!! Of course I LOVED every minute of it and am glad that I have the summer to catch up on moments like these!

After lunch, Caleb and I decided to take a dip in the pool...no I don't have pics from the pool (We were the only ones there and Caleb can't swim) SO I just have this before in his swim garb!! It's a big change from the tight belly shirt we had him in last year!
I don't know how Caleb felf about the whole swim experience...we floated around and he just kind of went with the flow! He didn't act like he was too excited yet he wasn't crying so we'll have to keep taking him to get used to the swim idea! Good thing the water was warm...It felt GOOD on this 105 degree day!

Caleb can't talk yet, but he sure can climb!! This is just a result of his shennanigans... he will try to climb on everything! His bed in his room is his favorite place to climb so far!!! He totally posed for this picture... LOVE IT!!!!

Patty Cake

We have had quite the busy week with taking Caleb to many doctor's appointments! First things first, on Tuesday we went back to the Opthamologist and he said that his eye looked GREAT! He wanted to pull off the Steri Strips and I gave him the go ahead! We had to hold Caleb down but when all was said and done Caleb's eye looked better than it did with the strips! The bruising is going away nicely...just a little bit under his eye and you can't tell where the incision was up on his eye!
We went in for his 15 month wellness appointment today and for some reason Caleb is completely scared of doctors now...can you guess why?!? He weighed in at 28 pounds and is 34 inches long. He is still off the charts for his height, and has gone down to the 90th percentile for his weight. Then came the shots...of course that wasn't a happy experience but we lived through it! Caleb actually took off his band aids on his own...WOW!!! It's been rough, but our brave boy got through it!!!

We have been enjoying our time together this summer and Caleb is running the BEST routine EVER!!! He still takes two naps a day which gives me time to work out and get ready in the morning and read in the afternoon. This is really sad but I've already read two books in one week! In between we make a mess of the house with all of Caleb's toys, run errands, have lunch with dad, read books, watch some Elmo and play some more! Caleb is going to go and play with his friends on Monday while I go to the eye doctor and then we're going to start going to the pool (We had to wait 2 weeks because of the surgery)! It has been VERY HOT down here in Texas getting up to about 98 degrees but feeling like 104 degrees, so we stay indoors and stay hydrated most of the time. I feel bad that I can't take him to the park to play during the afternoon but it's better to be safe than sorry! I have had to get used to being at home all day every day with Caleb and I'm getting the hang of it! I'm so used to working and being on my feet all day, it really does take some getting used to! I am enjoying every minute I get to spend with my boy and wish that Ad could be home from his research to play too!!! That's what our weekends are for!! Adam gets to take on a lot of the Caleb responsibilities and I know he has fun taking care of his boy! We hope you enjoy the few pics of our little man...

Look mom no bottle...for now...HA HA HA!

The eye looks a lot better if I do say so myself!

I know I complain about Caleb's brick feet all of the time, but I still love them!!

This picture is mid patty cake...

We're throwing it in the oven here!

Here is Caleb playing patty cake...we are working on rolling and marking with a C, but he has the clapping down GREAT!

The end of our week!

This was taken last weekend and just goes to show how much Caleb REALLY enjoyed the whole hair cut experience! It's hard not to laugh...but he's just soooo sad!

Earlier this week:

Caleb's eye is starting to look so much better. It's pretty much all the way open now and the bruising is starting to lighten up! Here is just a pic of me and my boy!

CRINGE...yes, Caleb still has a bottle! it's the one thing that I can't quite get him to give up yet! He still does drink out of cups with straws, but my mom would say that I'm still in denial...which I am! You can also see here that the eye is open!

Just a shot of what the bruising looks like...not too bad right? We're going back to the opthamologist on Tuesday for his post op appointment...I'm sure he'll say everything is great!

Day 3 Update

I don't know if I'll get pictures for everyday, but you can already tell that the swelling on Caleb's eye has gone down a little more. He actually could open his eye today...and by the time he went to bed, he had it about half way. The bruising is now starting to move under his eye which is weird to see. It's also weird to see how fast the bruising moves. This morning there was just a little bit and again by the time he went to bed it was a lot darker! I'm hoping that the steri strips start coming off soon so we can wipe off the dried blood underneath. That just sounded really gross when I read it back, but it's the truth...it's driving me CRAZY!!
I hope you enjoy my little man in his pictures...I also wanted to show off his new lounging attire (Children's Place was having a sale!) This is Caleb's "i just had surgery on my eye" outfit! He still looks as adorable as ever to me...especially with all the extra purple!

Flash on...squinty smile!

I actually turned the flash off here...you can tell that his eye has opened more and see where the bruising is traveling to! Our little raccoon!

The full outfit shot...cut off sweats with a fun tee! it's good to see that Caleb hasn't lost his love for his books after the few days we've put him through! PLUS I'm loving that haircut! THANKS MOM!

Caleb does this thing that whenever there is a commercial on the TV he stops whatever he is doing and watches...I don't quite get what is so interesting about commercials, but in this picture I tried to get him to look my way for a few minutes, and this is all I got!

A few more Firsts for Caleb...

We have had a very eventful few weeks! School is finally out...yyyeeeessss! AND we have been very busy preparing for Caleb's surgery that took place yesterday. Caleb was born with a Dermoid Cyst above his right eye and we got it removed yesterday. My parents came down to help out with doctor's appointments, and for some extra support through this whole experience! I'll explain more of what happened later, but for right now he is healthy and happy! We would just like to thank all of you (who knew he was going into surgery) for keeping our boy in your thoughts and prayers...we know that he was being watched over!

We decided that while my mom was here, we would take advantage of her hair cutting abilities! We were all in need of a haircut and convinced her to bring her scissors to help us out! So, on Saturday, she gave Caleb his first haircut! He did a great job sitting in his highchair and was only bothered by her handy work a few times...of course I had to also sit in front of him to distract him! He needed it though, he was really starting to look like a ragglemuffin!!! We have a few pics from the event and a video (i'll post later)...his hair stayed curly and he looks more like a little man!!

During the haircut! He really wasn't that happy about the whole situation, but still let GMA get the job done!

Seriously Mom...what next?

Now to the surgery...Caleb had his surgery at Texas Children's Hospital which is a wonderful hospital here in Houston. We went into the hospital at 8:30 yesterday morning and had to do a lot of waiting! Caleb couldn't eat or drink anything and he was pretty mad that I wasn't feeding him his breakfast first thing. As it turned out we had to wait a little longer than planned because surgeon that was in Caleb's room before his surgery was taking a little longer! Anyway, we finally got him in at 11:30...the anesthesiologist took him and ran back to the room and they had us go and wait! He did a wonderful job during surgery, and is recovering well. The doctor told us that it was a good thing that we got the cyst removed because it had grown into the bone in his eyebrow, so he will have a little dent in the bone until it fills in. It probably wouldn't have done him a lot of harm, but we wanted to get it taken care of! He went into recovery and woke up drank his juice and just relaxed. They let him go home a little early because he was doing so well! When we got home, he did run a little fever, but that is normal with the anesthetic that he was given. He relaxed a lot yesterday and by night was starting to play around and ate a good dinner. Today you wouldn't even know that he had anything happen to him! I haven't even had to give him much Tylenol. He is such a trooper! Yes, his eye looks pretty scary, but he really doesn't act like it's bothering him at all!
Here are some pictures from yesterday when we got home from the hospital:

His fever flared up as soon as we got him home...my poor boy, look at that red face! He would not smile AT ALL yesterday...it was understandable but I wasn't used to it! By the end of the night, he had more smiles and kisses for everyone!

A little close up of his eye...

Caleb taking a break from my lap...do you love his little yellow scrubs! He's keeping those for his jammies!

Just loungin...he wouldn't let anyone but me take his picture at this point...

Snuggling on his stomach!

Later yesterday night:

Back down to the books...at this point there wasn't a fever and he had eaten his dinner!

Love that little Charlie Brown football shaped head!!

This was before bedtime and he was ready to go! I look pretty worn out too...just look at Caleb!

Today:

Caleb's eye has gotten a little more swollen and a little bit darker...he doesn't seem to mind that his eye is only open just a little bit. I mind, but again, he acts like it doesn't bother him, he has been playing nonstop ALL day!

Here's the classic squint smile!

I'll try to update day by day so you can see improvements! He has to go back to see his opthamologist next week for a post appointment...I will keep y'all updated!
