A few more Firsts for Caleb...

We have had a very eventful few weeks! School is finally out...yyyeeeessss! AND we have been very busy preparing for Caleb's surgery that took place yesterday. Caleb was born with a Dermoid Cyst above his right eye and we got it removed yesterday. My parents came down to help out with doctor's appointments, and for some extra support through this whole experience! I'll explain more of what happened later, but for right now he is healthy and happy! We would just like to thank all of you (who knew he was going into surgery) for keeping our boy in your thoughts and prayers...we know that he was being watched over!

We decided that while my mom was here, we would take advantage of her hair cutting abilities! We were all in need of a haircut and convinced her to bring her scissors to help us out! So, on Saturday, she gave Caleb his first haircut! He did a great job sitting in his highchair and was only bothered by her handy work a few times...of course I had to also sit in front of him to distract him! He needed it though, he was really starting to look like a ragglemuffin!!! We have a few pics from the event and a video (i'll post later)...his hair stayed curly and he looks more like a little man!!

During the haircut! He really wasn't that happy about the whole situation, but still let GMA get the job done!

Seriously Mom...what next?

Now to the surgery...Caleb had his surgery at Texas Children's Hospital which is a wonderful hospital here in Houston. We went into the hospital at 8:30 yesterday morning and had to do a lot of waiting! Caleb couldn't eat or drink anything and he was pretty mad that I wasn't feeding him his breakfast first thing. As it turned out we had to wait a little longer than planned because surgeon that was in Caleb's room before his surgery was taking a little longer! Anyway, we finally got him in at 11:30...the anesthesiologist took him and ran back to the room and they had us go and wait! He did a wonderful job during surgery, and is recovering well. The doctor told us that it was a good thing that we got the cyst removed because it had grown into the bone in his eyebrow, so he will have a little dent in the bone until it fills in. It probably wouldn't have done him a lot of harm, but we wanted to get it taken care of! He went into recovery and woke up drank his juice and just relaxed. They let him go home a little early because he was doing so well! When we got home, he did run a little fever, but that is normal with the anesthetic that he was given. He relaxed a lot yesterday and by night was starting to play around and ate a good dinner. Today you wouldn't even know that he had anything happen to him! I haven't even had to give him much Tylenol. He is such a trooper! Yes, his eye looks pretty scary, but he really doesn't act like it's bothering him at all!
Here are some pictures from yesterday when we got home from the hospital:

His fever flared up as soon as we got him home...my poor boy, look at that red face! He would not smile AT ALL yesterday...it was understandable but I wasn't used to it! By the end of the night, he had more smiles and kisses for everyone!

A little close up of his eye...

Caleb taking a break from my lap...do you love his little yellow scrubs! He's keeping those for his jammies!

Just loungin...he wouldn't let anyone but me take his picture at this point...

Snuggling on his stomach!

Later yesterday night:

Back down to the books...at this point there wasn't a fever and he had eaten his dinner!

Love that little Charlie Brown football shaped head!!

This was before bedtime and he was ready to go! I look pretty worn out too...just look at Caleb!

Today:

Caleb's eye has gotten a little more swollen and a little bit darker...he doesn't seem to mind that his eye is only open just a little bit. I mind, but again, he acts like it doesn't bother him, he has been playing nonstop ALL day!

Here's the classic squint smile!

I'll try to update day by day so you can see improvements! He has to go back to see his opthamologist next week for a post appointment...I will keep y'all updated!

Surgery??? Really??? I think his dad lost his temper during an xbox game and thumped him, and you guys are just trying to hide it. Anyway, tell the little feller his deadbeat uncle and family are thinking of him and hope he gets better soon. Probably best if you don't take him out in public lest someone reports you. Jared
